“Taking Stock, Taking Action”

  1. Would you be willing to negotiate a higher starting salary or ask for a raise? Does your school offer career services that include building this skill? Does your school have a speech and/or debate team? Would joining strengthen your advocacy skills?
  2. How is housework and paid work divided in your household or the household in which you grew up? If you think the work is divided unfairly, do you think you could constructively raise the issue?
  3. Where is the clothing in your campus bookstore made (all clothing must contain a label)? Can you tell if it was made in “no sweat” conditions (where workers are paid a living wage)? Does your campus sell “fair trade” products like coffee? Is there a no sweat or fair trade campaign on your campus?
