About the Author

Trevor Herbert was born in Wales and educated at St. Luke's College Exeter, the Royal College of Music, and the Open University. He has written and edited a number of books, and has contributed to academic journals, to some of the world's definitive reference books, and to popular publications such as newspapers, magazines, and CD liner notes. As professor of music at the UK's Open University (the world's leading multi-media distance teaching university) he has contributed extensively to teaching publications in various media. He is also a regular contributor to BBC radio and television.

He had a successful career as a trombone player, particularly with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Welsh National Opera, and period instrument groups such as Musica Reservata and the Taverner Players. He was also a member of the Wallace Collection, one of the leading brass instrument chamber groups.

He has been the recipient of various honors and awards, and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Music in 2007.
