About the Book

This book tells the story of two important battles of the American Revolution that were fought in the fall of 1777. While other books have described the Saratoga Campaign at large scale, this one treats only the 33 days up to and including the surrender of Burgoyne. The events that fill those days are told at a personal level, sometimes minute to minute, through the eyes of the men and women who fought, won, lost, and in some cases died, in the campaign. The companion website is designed to help the reader follow the narrative threads of individual participants, military units, or topical themes through the larger story. Electronic maps provide battlefield context and accessible details. Color versions of book figures, key documents, and summary data that are not otherwise easily accessible are also provided.
