Dean R. Snow (born October 18, 1940) grew up in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. He received his BA degree in anthropology from the University of Minnesota in 1962. He received a PhD at the University of Oregon in 1962, based in part on research carried out in highland Mexico. He begin his professional career at the University of Maine in 1966. He moved to the University at Albany, SUNY and remained there for 26 years. He carried out historical archaeology at the Saratoga battlefield in 1972-1977. Snow moved to The Pennsylvania State University in 1995. He has served as an officer the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Society for American Archaeology, and other professional organizations. Snow married Janet Keller Snow, in 1963. They have three children: Katherine (Kate), Barbara, and Joshua.
