About the author

Bonnie C. Wade is Professor and Jerry and Evelyn Hemmings Chambers Chair in Music at the University of California, Berkeley. She is an ethnomusicologist specializing in the musics of Asia, and the author of several books including Imaging Sound: An Ethnomusicological Study of Music, Art and Culture in Mughal India, Khyal: Creativity within North India's Classical Music Tradition, and Music in India: The Classical Tradition. She has served as President of the Society for Ethnomusicology (1999-2001), and Vice President of the American Musicological Society (1991-93).
