Publishing Spring 2021, UK Politics is a brand new textbook from OUP that focuses on the UK political system and its place in the wider world of politics.
Over the coming months, we will be showing you how UK Politics' pedagogy and features work to develop students' understanding of the UK political system both past and present, including debates around Brexit and the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
This month, we are offering you a first look at the final cover design for UK Politics.
In September, we sent out a survey asking students for help with choosing the perfect cover design for UK Politics. We received lots of really positive feedback and hope that you are as pleased with it as we and the author are.
To give you an insight to work and thought that went into the cover, here is what OUP designer Gemma Wakefield had to say about the design:
"The minimalist cover uses a cropped image of 'Big Ben' in the style of an old engraving - this helps create a sense of gravitas and significance whilst the solid yellow background gives a light, modern, and fresh look which brings balance to the traditional style of the illustration. The heavy slab-serif white typography creates an overall modern cover with an accesible, friendly, and slightly retro vibe."
Here are some postive comments we received from the student survey:
"It displays an aesthetically pleasing image which conveys a message relevant to political science." - Student from University College Dublin
"Using bright colours makes the book more appealing. I think that the image really distinguishes the cover from others as I automatically link it to the UK." - Student from Groningen University
"I think the colours really stand out and are bright and more likely to catch the eye!" - Student from University College Dublin
"This cover encourages thought and critical thinking, which I like." - Student from University of Manchester
Each month we'll be revealing more about UK Politics and asking for your input and comments.
