HE Psychology Teacher of the Year 2022

Proudly supported by Oxford University Press and the British Psychological Society Division of Academics, Researchers & Teachers in Psychology (BPS DARTP), the Higher Education Psychology Teacher of the Year Award aims to recognise and reward exceptional teaching talent.

How to apply:

The competition is open to all psychology teachers in UK higher education, currently employed by a UK educational institution on a part-time or full-time, fixed term or permanent basis.

To apply, download and read the Guidance for Applicants document, then complete the HE Psychology Teacher of the Year 2022 Application Form. Completed application forms should be returned to Paul Wilson, the BPS DARTP Secretary.

The deadline for receipt of completed applications is 12 noon on Monday 31st January 2022.

Dr Paul PennPaul is a senior lecturer in psychology at the University of East London and the author of the book 'The Psychology of Effective Studying: How to Succeed in Your Degree'. As a first-generation university student, Paul is passionate about empowering all students to succeed at degree level. He believes that helping students study more effectively is one of psychology's most important, yet unsung, benefits to society.

Paul is a fellow of Advance HE, a Chartered Psychologist and a member of the Division of Academics, Researchers and Teachers in Psychology. His current projects involve developing a YouTube channel that students from all disciplines can access to get free video-based advice on how to study effectively (www.youtube.com/psychologyofeffectivestudying).

Paul is the lead for the forthcoming Cyberpsychology BSc programme at the University of East London and has additional interests in psychological literacy and the public communication of science.

Paul impressed the judging panel with his winning case study on transforming the communication and accessibility of evidence-based advice from psychology on how to study effectively.

As well as the title of Higher Education Psychology Teacher of the Year 2021, Paul receives a personal prize of £1,500, a year of free membership to DARTP, and £250 worth of OUP books.

Congratulations to the other worthy finalists, Dr Richard Harris (University of Leeds) and Dr Louise Taylor-Bunce (Oxford Brookes University).
