This textbook provides a comprehensive account of the many different ways neutrons are being used to investigate the behaviour of atoms and molecules in bulk matter. It provides a modern and pedagogical treatment of the principles behind the various neutron scattering techniques that are used at facilities around the world.

Andrew T. Boothroyd, Professor of Physics and Fellow of Oriel College, University of Oxford
Andrew T. Boothroyd is a Professor of Physics at Oxford University, and a Fellow of Oriel College. After completing undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Cambridge, Andrew joined the University of Warwick, first as a postdoc and then as a University Lecturer. In 1991, he moved to Oxford University, where he has served as Head of Condensed Matter Physics, Associate Head of Department, and as vice-Provost of Oriel College. His research exploits neutron and x-ray scattering techniques to explore novel magnetic and superconducting materials. In 2011 he won the Institute of Physics Superconductivity Group Prize, and in 2017 he was recognised as an Outstanding Referee by the American Physical Society.
"Provides an important update to the neutron scattering community, self-contained, easily readable ... [and] will serve as an excellent textbook and resource in the field for workshops or schools on neutron scattering." - Christopher Stock, Neutron News
"This book aims to bring the needed introduction to the expanding area of neutron scattering techniques to this wider audience of scientists using neutron scattering as part of their experimental portfolio. In my view, it completely succeeds in that goal and provides the right balance of introduction and in-depth discussion. I also like the layout of the book, with some figures and notes in the margin making it easy to read and navigate. As a 'long-time' neutron scatterer, I am excited to add this book to my book shelf . . . [and] I have already used it to look things up for my own research." - Thomas Proffen, Journal of Applied Crystallography
