Description

Written specifically to meet the needs of a biomedical science audience, this is the most relevant and useful statistics and data analysis text for biomedical science students.

  • A broad overview of data handling and analysis, not just limited to a discussion of statistics
  • Content is carefully developed to support the reader in demonstrating the competencies required during the study of biomedical science at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Relevant examples enrich the text, firmly rooting it within the context of clinical and biomedical practice

New to this edition

  • More examples of the maths at work makes the text ideal for students encountering the subject for the first time
  • Updated content on quality assurance, clinical audits and research, and good laboratory practice improves support for clinical diagnosis modules and laboratory work
  • Expanded explanations of multivariate linear regression analysis, confidence intervals, and the anion gap provide a consolidation of difficult concepts
  • Additional figures illustrate the Chi-squared test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and serial measurement of data to increase clarity
  • New sections on writing for the laboratory and writing for external publications equip students with the skills to perform to their potential, reaching beyond degree level

Reviews

"A gem of a find! For once it makes statistics understandable and it also clearly explains research and professional practice. Few books cover this range of topics. It is ideal for students completing research and also introduces student to good clinical practice. The statistical sections are very well explained indeed and simplify complicated concepts in a very readable manner." - Ruth Shiner, University of Wolverhampton

"Provides clear explanations of basic statistical and experimental design concepts which are placed into a practical context that is highly relevant for BMS students" - Lewis Bingle, University of Sunderland

"An easy-to-read book that explains how to use a range of statistical tests that can be applied to data" - Amreen Bashir, Aston University
