OUP enters partnership with LGBTQ+ rights charity Stonewall

19 June 2020

We are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with Stonewall—Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ rights charity.

Stonewall campaigns for the equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, and has been successful in lobbying for change in legislation on same sex marriage, the Equality Act, and the right for same sex couples to adopt. Through its partnerships, Stonewall aims to bring equality to LGBT individuals at home, school, and work.

We have joined Stonewall’s Diversity Champion Programme, and begun development of a plan outlining priorities for making OUP a more inclusive organization. One of the strongest aims of the partnership is to expand OUP’s LGBTQ+ network globally to enable any employee to get involved regardless of location.

Casper Grathwohl, President of Global Dictionaries at OUP, commented, ‘I’m a big fan of OUP partnering with Stonewall. It sends a positive message about the Press’s support for its LGBTQ+ community and having access to Stonewall’s resources and guidance will help us create an even more inclusive and welcoming environment for all staff.’

Kate Williams, Stonewall’s Head of Private Sector Memberships added, ‘We’re delighted to be working with the Oxford University Press through our Diversity Champions programme. We’ll be supporting them to make changes which will positively impact their employees and clients and work with them to embed LGBT inclusivity across their organization. We know that people perform better at work when they can be themselves and that diverse teams lead to more creative and productive environments.’
