Biff, Chip and Kipper to become CBeebies show
11 October 2019
We are delighted that our bestselling reading scheme Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) is to become a CBeebies series next year.
First published in book form in 1986, ORT’s beloved characters Biff, Chip and Kipper have taught millions of children to read. The ORT series is used in 80 per cent of UK primary schools, has been translated into 14 languages, and has been read by more than 30 million children since its inception. The latest series, Explore with Biff, Chip and Kipper, was published in 2018.
BBC Children’s award-winning in-house scripted development production team will create the new preschool live action drama series, based on the iconic characters created by Roderick Hunt and Alex Brychta. The series is set to air in autumn 2020, and will comprise 30 episodes of 11 minutes each.
The series will follow the adventures of three young siblings and their dog Floppy. When things go wrong, family and friends come together to help put everything right again, often in the most unexpected of ways!
Andrea Quincey, OUP’s Director of Primary Literacy, commented: ‘We are thrilled that the world of Biff, Chip, Kipper and Floppy the dog is going to be brought to life by the BBC and that a whole new generation of children and their families will be entertained and amused by the adventures of the Robinsons and their friends.’
