29 September 2019
We are delighted to have received an award for Outstanding Collaboration from China’s largest foreign-language publisher, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP).
In celebration of its 40th anniversary, FLTRP hosted a discussion on the future of language publishing in China, at the 2019 Beijing International Book Fair. During the event, OUP was recognized as the first foreign publisher to license a book to FLTRP 35 years ago, and also received the Outstanding Collaboration Award in recognition of more than thirty years of working together.
Former FLTRP President Li Pengyi, joined Ms Qian Shuren (Division Director of Exchange and Cooperation, Import and Export Administration Department, Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee), and Hugo Setzer (President of the International Publishers Association) to co-present the award, alongside informative speeches on how China is adopting education standards that teach the whole person, involve active learning, and develop thinking skills.
Joseph Noble, our Head of Partnerships and Innovation, received the award on behalf of OUP, commenting: ‘Tens of millions of learners and teachers have improved their English skills through materials published out of the collaboration between Oxford and FLTRP—it has been a remarkable creative partnership.’
Mr. Xu jianzhong, Editor-in-Chief of FLTRP, added: ‘The very first international licensing agreement in 1983 with Oxford marked the beginning of FLTRP’s international cooperation. Looking back on the past 40 years, we rejoice over the long list of high-quality titles developed through international cooperation and feel deeply proud of and grateful to our international partners.’
