Vocabulary building with Oxford Dictionary Week
01 August 2019
In July, OUP Pakistan organized Oxford Dictionary Week at bookshops across the country, in efforts to promote the importance and usage of dictionaries among young people and improve their vocabulary-building skills.
The event ran online as well as in our bookshops, and engaged people through word-based activities such as crossword puzzles, anagrams, and fun vocabulary test Word Origin. The activities were well received with students demonstrating impressive lexical knowledge through their participation, and the winners receiving prizes.
Speaking of the event, Ayesha Jabbar, Education Consultant at OUP Pakistan, commented: ‘It was great seeing the participants so engaged in learning dictionary skills and figuring out anagrams. I was really impressed with how the children worked together as a team to find the meanings of the words from the dictionary and then list them down on a poster all within a limited time frame. It was great effort and so much fun!’
