Opening a Credit Account with OUP
Customers in most countries can order the majority of our products online (except subscription products which, at present, are only available on a school account) and pay by credit or debit card.
Search for your product on our search page or browse our catalogues, and add items you wish to buy to your basket.
If you are a stock-holding bookshop and intend to hold stock of our titles and place regular orders, we will be happy to open a credit account for you on receipt of a satisfactory bank reference and two trade references. For those new to the trade, other professional references may be acceptable. We would recommend - if you have not already done so - that you apply to the Booksellers Association for membership.
If you do not qualify for a credit account...
We do not normally open accounts for booksellers, newsagents, antiquarian booksellers etc., who will only do a small amount of business with us. We are happy to supply these customers on a cash-with-order or proforma basis. Carriage costs on this type of order are paid by the customer, although most of our reference books, paperbacks, bibles etc., can be obtained from a wholesaler.
If you are an international customer, please send your company address, phone number, email, type of business and UK freight forwarder details to OEInternational.SalesSupport@oup.com. The team will be able to advise on discount and proceed with your order.
For customers outside the UK
Orders will be dispatched to meet your requirements as you have indicated on your application form (eg. Air Mail, DHL, Securicor Europe, Sea Freight, Air Freight) and any carriage costs will be calculated according to order weight and charged on your invoice. However, if you choose to use a Freight Forwarder, delivery will be free of charge to a UK address and your chosen freight forwarder will invoice you directly.

Electronic ordering services for UK and European retail trade customers
Currently there are three methods you can use for placing your orders electronically with OUP. The method chosen will largely depend on the size of your business and your annual order value.
1. For smaller accounts we would recommend using the Nielsen BookNet Teleordering service provided by Nielsen BookNet Web Services (www.nielsenbooknet.co.uk)
Tel: +44 (0) 870 777 8710
Fax: +44 (0) 870 777 8711
Nielsen BookNet offers the combined services of First Edition, Teleordering and Whitaker Information Services.
If you are using TeleOrdering, you will receive an order confirmation from TeleOrdering which is sent after your order has been transmitted to us. However, this is not a confirmation that your order has been processed by us. If you require, we can provide an electronic acknowledgement that your order has been processed by us, with a confirmation of the expected delivery date(s).
The transfer of your order to OUP is done by batch continuously throughout the day and overnight. We process your order when we receive the file from TeleOrdering. Teleordering will allow you to place orders for titles yet to be published.
2. For all customers with an existing OUP credit account, we recommend using the 24/7 price, availability and online ordering service provided by PubEasy.
Tel: +44 (0) 1342310481
Fax: +44 (0) 1342310486
3. Larger accounts can set up an EDI account directly by contacting our Electronic Trading Support Team, telling us which EDI messages you want to trade, the EDI standards, the Value Added Network you use, and your EDI code.
e-mail the E-commerce Support Team: email@example.com
Tel: +44 (0) 1865 353916 (James Thornber)
Tel: +44 (0) 1865 353142 (Steve Lamb)
Fax: +44 (0) 1865 353260
If you use a direct EDI arrangement with us, we will send you an order confirmation if you request it.
The transfer of your order to OUP is done by batch continuously throughout the day and overnight. We process your order when we receive the file from Teleordering. Any order received before 3pm will be despatched on the following day.
4. Also suitable for smaller accounts or promotion orders is OUP’s Excel Ordering which is free and easy to use. New or repeat orders can be filled in on an Excel spreadsheet template and emailed to OUP. The order will be generated electronically and be placed directly into our order management system, ensuring your order is progressed in the quickest possible time with minimum risk of error. Download the order template, using the guidelines provided.
