Q: I have a 64 bit machine will I need a patch?
A: A few minor changes are needed to get it working on a 64bit operating system. Inside the document (See "64bit instructions" below) there is additional link which allows you to download the fix for 64 bit machines. Please follow the instructions on how to apply the fix to your OxBox installation.
Q: Is there an .MSI on the CD-ROM so I can distribute via GPO or any other third party software?
A: Please download our network client help documentation which provide information on how to best setup the network clients .
Q: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installation appears instead of OxBox.
A: If you are running a computer or network without Microsoft .NET Framework or Microsoft .NET Framework 1, then the first part of the installation will detect these setting and ask you to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2. Please follow the onscreen instructions for the installation. OxBox uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 2 libraries so this installation is necessary for successful installation of OxBox.
Q: I'm unable to uninstall an upgrade from the rest of OxBox.
A: OxBox has a simple uninstall procedure that only allows you to uninstall the entire product. However, if you do not have to uninstall the database then you are given the choice to retain all the database contents, including any additional data created by users.
Q: Do I need to restart the server once I've installed the OxBox content to it?
A: No. Once you have installed OxBox to the server it does not need to be restarted.
Q: What if my Microsoft .NET Framework is only a beta version?
A: If you have a beta version of Microsoft .NET Framework and try to run the CD-ROM you will be asked to follow the installation process to install the correct version. Please be aware that you need to fully remove the beta from your system before installing the updated version. You will need to go to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel to do this.
Q: I'm unable to login to OxBox
A: Please make sure you are entering the correct login details, you will be able to find this on page 7/8 of the instruction booklet that came with the disc. If you sure you are entering in the correct details then the issue might relate to a missing file, Our help guide about login failure will help

A: If this occurs then you need to install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2 from the Microsoft website to the client machine.

A: The reason for this error is because there are 3 files missing from the client install. The default directory for the files is C:/program files/OxBox/'name of the product'/. Please download the ouptoolsfix.zip and extract the files and place them in this files here C:/program files/OxBox/'name of the product'/
Q: Error message 'Unable to complete action. No application is associated with the specified file for this operation.'
A: If this error message appears, please look at the file type inside OxBox, this means that you do not have the correct plug-in or player available to display the resource. Here is a list of the common players and plug-ins required to view most OxBox resources: Windows Media Player v9 or above Flash Player 8 or above Adobe Acrobat 6 or above Microsoft Office 97 or above
Q: Error message "Request for the permission of type System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermisson, mscorlib, Version=188.8.131.52, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c56194e089 failed."
A: This error normally appear when you are trying to install the application from a remote location i.e. a shared network drive, .Net applications cannot run from a network drive (.net has quite severe restrictions on where applications can be run from). This is not so much a bug as a limitation of the technology. To remedy this issue the user needs to install the tools locally with the database on the network that they are accessing
Q: Error message I've tried to run an .exe activity from within OxBox and I've got the error message 'Error. Access is denied.'
A: If this occurs then the permissions set on the network have blocked the .exe from running. All .exe running inside OxBox are Flash self-extracting animations or simple whiteboard activities. Please ensure that suitable permissions are set in the 'OxBox Database' folder or custom folder (if you have created one) on the server. This folder will either require full permissions or you will need to set permission for it from the third party software which sets security in your environment. Please allow suitable permissions to these folders and sub-folders to allow the application to work.
Q: Unable to open .exes because of RM CC4 Restrictions

Q: Windows Server permissions
A: Please can you ensure that the OxBox database folder that sits on your Sever and all of the files within that folder are set to Read/Write/Modify for all of the users that want to run OxBox as the files within the database need to manipulated by the user and to do this they need the correct permissions. If you are still having permission issues, then please can you send an email to email@example.com with screenshots of any errors and details of the setup you currently have in the school.
Q: Does OxBox work on an Apple Macintosh computer?
A: OxBox has been created for use on Windows only. But if you have an Intel Mac and have installed Windows XP sp2 or higher then you will be able to run OxBox using these settings.
Q: I am running the program from CD. Some of the characters in the activities/assessment questions appear as '?'.
A: There are some known issues with running from CD which appear occasionally, including special characters such as plus signs and brackets occasionally appearing as question marks. We are working on resolving this issue. However, if you install the CD this problem will not occur.
Q: I can't access the content on the server from the OxBox product.
A: If this occurs then check your permissions on the server in the file location that the database is held. It is important that the folder and all sub-folders are set to read/write full access permission.
Q: I am running the program from CD. Audio and/or images seem to be missing in the interactive activity./The activity layout looks strange./Sound buttons in the activity don't work.
A: There are some known issues with running from CD which appear occasionally, including those listed above. We are working on resolving these issues. Sometimes closing and reopening the activity will solve the problem while running from CD. However, if you install the CD these problems will not occur.
Q: I am unable to find certain resources
A: Please ensure that you have logged into OxBox to be able to see all teacher resources. If you don't then the default view you would see is the student perspective and we have purposely excluded teacher material for this reason. Q: Structure of the VLE packs
A: The VLE packs that we provide alongside our OxBox software are a free content pack for schools to manipulate and use on their VLE. The main selling point of the OxBox product is the Network version, as this encases the content of the course in a content management system where you can create users, assign assessments, create your own lesson plans and lots more. After releasing the Network version of OxBox, we received feedback from many customers who wanted to use the content of the Network version on their VLE. So we decided to create a content-only pack (SCORM pack) of all the resources in the OxBox software, enabling customers to upload them to their VLE. We give this to our customers free of charge. It is not possible to replicate the functionality of our Network version because the VLE already has its own content management system in place; there are also many different VLEs available on the market, so it is not feasible to create bespoke packs for individual VLEs. For this reason we have made a content-only pack instead, which will enable all users to access the content.
