Reviews

  • Struggle for Identity

This book is so helpful whilst I'm trying to revise for my English Literature Exam this summer! It contains many different poem, drama and novel extracts which all relate to the key theme of The Struggle for Identity in Modern Literature. There are really helpful comments on the form, structure and language of each extract. The author even links the extracts to each other through techniques and SFI topics such as race and rites of passage. My only regret is that I didn't get this book sooner! Highly recommended.

  • Milton: Paradise Lost Bk 1 and 2

The difference with this edition of Paradise Lost is that it has line numbers. Yes, believe it or not some editions lack those, which makes it terribly hard to follow in class. It also has loads of context on the book, notes on things like Pandemonium etc. There are also bits at the end of Book Two that explain certain parts of the poem. It is a must buy for all students that are studying it.

  • Wilfred Owen: Selected Poems

I bought this book for my English lit AS level, and found it extremely useful. It contains comprehensive selection of Owen's poems and letters to his mother, background about Owen's life and WW1 and also notes on all of the works included. A must-buy for A level English and also for anyone interested in WW1 poetry as it makes a very interesting read!

  • Chaucer: The Miller's Tale

Containing questions to aid in grasping the plot, and in-depth notes to translate and explain the archaic language and its setting, this edition of The Miller's Tale cannot be ignored as the best in the field. Making study easier, without spoon-feeding the central points, I highly recommend this book

  • Chaucer: The Miller's Tale

This is a brilliant edition of Chaucer's The Miller's Tale. The annotations are very detailed and scholarly enough to understand Chaucer in a social context, rather than simply in a literary one. Apart from the notes, you will also find an Approaches section, where aspects of the Tale such as theme and characters are covered. This is by far the best edition of The Miller's Tale, and tells you everything concisely

  • Marlowe: Dr Faustus

This edition is very useful for students studying this text, as it has lots of notes on the play at the back. Also it gives you contextual information about Marlowe and the play at the beginning
