Education changes lives; it changed mine...
Having arrived at a career in academia quite late in life, Roz was delighted to discover that the IB had got there before her and seemed to fit with her unorthodox view of life and education. Twenty years later, Roz remains faithful to the IB and is evangelical about its ability to change lives, as it changed hers and those of her students.
Roz has been working with, and for, the IB since 1998 when she first became a teacher; indeed, her passion for the Diploma and Career-Related programmes grew from her first-hand experience of the ability of education to transform lives. Having failed the 11 plus and thinking that her life was over at the age of 11, she went on to gain an MA in Educational Management and Leadership from the University of Warwick and is now considering signing up for a PhD (the hardest part of this process being obtaining the support of her long-suffering partner).
Roz began her teaching career as an English Language and Literature teacher in a UK state school where she went on to become DP Coordinator, EE Coordinator and TOK Coordinator; most recently she worked as Head of Senior School in the United Arab Emirates. In addition, through her extensive involvement with IBEN, Roz has worked with schools and teachers throughout Africa, Europe and the Middle-East, supporting and developing both the DP and the CP in schools, as well as leading IB workshops in Coordination, ATL, TOK across the DP and the Extended Essay.
Roz now works as a freelance consultant, focusing on supporting schools and teachers with implementing, developing and sustaining the DP and CP.
Roz is the main developer of TOKopolis – The Game of TOK as published in Theory of Knowledge Skills and Practice: Oxford IB Diploma Programme.
