Read Write Inc.: Great Yarmouth Primary Academy

Great Yarmouth Primary Academy is a large school with high FSM situated on the coast . The school came out of special measures just two months after implementing Read Write Inc. Ofsted praised the approach to assessment and grouping used in the Read Write Inc. Phonics programme stating that: “In the new daily hour with structured teaching of sounds and letters (systematic phonics) and writing, pupils are grouped by what they know and understand rather than by how old they are. Read Write Inc. Fresh Start: The Whatever it Takes Project

The ‘Whatever It Takes’ initiative was launched in 2009 to ensure that every child in Leicester reaches their age related reading standard by the end of primary school. A significant number of secondary schools chose to implement Fresh Start to rapidly accelerate progress. These schools included: 1. New College, Leicester - accredited by Ofsted as one of the most rapidly improving secondary schools in the country. 2. Babington Community College - judged to be Outstanding in April 2013. 3. Read Write Inc. Fresh Start: Penn Hall School

Penn Hall is a special school for children aged 3-19 years with physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Ofsted inspected the school in February 2013 and graded it outstanding. The report recognises the inclusivity of the teaching, which enables children to make progress despite their barriers to learning. Read Write Inc. Fresh Start: The Lancaster Secondary School

The Lancaster School is a specialist sports college for boys aged 11-16. The school have found that Read Write Inc. Fresh Start has improved boys reading and writing skills. Kenton School is a secondary school with low EAL and high FSM. The school have found that Read Write Inc. Fresh Start has improved pupil's reading ages by 13 months on average. John Dabell from Teach Primary magazine reviewed the Read Write Inc. Literacy and Language resources. He commented: 'Literacy and Language is eloquent, convincing and full of rigour. Read Write Inc. Fresh Start: Walkwood C of E Primary School

Walkwood C of E Primary School is a large school in the suburbs. The percentage of pupils who were not at the expected reading level for their age has halved in the 5 months since implementing the programme from 7% to 3.5%. Stenhouse Primary School is a large inner-city school in Edinburgh with high a number of pupils eligible for FSM and no pupils with EAL. The school have found that after implementing Read Write Inc. Fresh Start: 1. Children have been more willing to read and enjoy the variety and interest level of the texts. 2. They have seen progress in reading after 1-2 months.

Spring Lane Primary School is a large school in a deprived area with high EAL (and growing), high FSM and high mobility in Northampton. In this video Sue Boshell, a teacher from the school explains the impact that Read Write Inc. has had on her school, including comments on: 1. Effective ways to support children and parents 2. The support offered by the trainers 3. The structure of the programme and adding your own creativity 4. The phenomenal impact on results - previously 30% of children were at level 2 and now 80% are at level 2 5. How children who had one-to-one tuition made 1 year and 4 months progress in 10 weeks 6. Blue Coat Infant School is a large infant school in Walsall with high EAL with over 20 languages spoken in the school. The school featured in HMI 'Reading by Six: how the best schools do it' report. In this video Jon Rawson, a teacher from the school explains the impact that Read Write Inc. has had on his school, including: 1. The methodology and resources 2. How children's reading and writing results rose quickly and continued to stay high 3. The improved teaching and learning and the consistency throughout school.
