Over the last 30 years, Economic Policy has strived to produce policy relevant and rigorous analyses of the economic challenges of the time. A number of articles have been highly influential, shaping thinking among academic economists and policymakers. This volume brings together key historic articles that still resonate today. It provides academics with important research markers, and also provides students (and their teachers) with a 'reader' that demonstrates how the field of economics progresses by responding to challenges of the time. Charles Wyplosz is Professor of International Economics at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva where he is Director of the International Centre of Money and Banking Studies (ICMB). Previously, he has served as Associate Dean for Reserach and Development at INSEAD and Director of the PhD program in Economics at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Science Sociales in Paris. He has also been Director of the International Macroeconomics Programme of CEPR. He was a founding Managing Editor of the journal Economic Policy. He is a regular columnist in newspapers such as the Financial Times, Le Monde, Libération, and Finanz und Wirtschaft. He has acted as consultant to the European Commission, the IMF, the World Bank, the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank. Professor Wyplosz holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. He has been awarded the Legion d'Honneur by the President of France.
