Fred T. Smith, Professor Emeritus of Art History at Kent State University holds an MA in Anthropology from UCLA and a PhD in Art History from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Martha Ehrlich, PhD, Indiana University. Martha Ehrlich taught Art History at Illinois University at Edwardsville. Her research has focused on the arts of Ghana with a particular interest on metalworking. After her retirement, she discovered early Akan gold abroad a pirate ship which became the focus of her research. The ship was sunk off the coast of Cape Cod in 1717.
Joseph L. Underwood is Assistant Professor of Art History for Africa and its Diaspora, Kent State University (PhD, Stony Brook University). His research fields include Modern & Contemporary African art, transnationalism, biennialism, exhibition histories. He is curator of The View From Here: Contemporary Perspectives From Senegal (2018-2019) and co-curator of TEXTURES: the History and Art of Black Hair (2020- 2021). His recent publications include: "Views Across the Atlantic: An American Vision of the First World Festival of Negro Arts," "Parisian Shadows: Iba N'Diaye and the Ripple of African Modernisms," and "Tendances et Confrontations: An Experimental Space for Defining Art from Africa."
