This majestic arrangement breathes new life into the patriotic hymn known to all American congregations. Thewith text, which commemorates the centenary of the US Declaration of Independence, makes the hymn particularly suitable for 4 July, but it would work just as well for other celebratory occasions. Wilberg has retained some of Warren's original harmonies, while also adding his own distinctive stamp. With verses for unison men and two- and three-part women's voices, the arrangement then opens out into eight mixed-voice parts, becoming increasingly rich and triumphant. Several modulations and an extended closing fanfare add further to the sense of grandeur.
