Corpus II

Writings on Sexuality

Jean-Luc Nancy and Translated by Anne O'Byrne

A Fordham University Press Publication

Perspectives in Continental Philosophy (FUP)

  • When the English-language version of Nancy's Corpus was finalized, of the many additional essays Nancy had suggested using to augment the book in its English version, we decided to focus on those that were about the soul and the body, thus echoing the concerns of Descartes. This book collects the essays from that original grouping that deal specifically with sexuality, such as the seminal "The 'There Is' of Sexual Relation' and its sequel, "There Is Sexual Relation--and Then."
  • To them has been added the book-length The Birth of Breasts, plus Paean to Aphrodite. A shorter version of the former of these appeared in a volume from Routledge a number of years ago, but that volume is now out of print.
  • Nancy's books are consistently among our bestsellers at both SPEP and AAR.
