  • The only book like this in existence is dated (old) and included only eight chapters (Tesser, 1995). Instructors for this course typically have to cobble together a reading list of articles and chapters that were not intended to be used in a survey course. These readings will typically be too narrow in scope and too advanced in presentation (and statistics, etc.) for such a course. And, given that each instructor has to cobble together his or her own idiosyncratic reading list, the field suffers by having graduate students learn strikingly different (sometimes nonoverlapping) content from one instructor to the next. The field can benefit from having a standard set of introductory readings that were written specifically for the purpose of educating students who are just becoming acquainted with the field.
