This year is the Year of the Rooster! Explore bird related facts through sample articles in the quiz below. Enter the quiz for your chance to win Oxford University Press (OUP) books, a personal subscription to Oxford Dictionaries, an iPod shuffle™, or an iPad mini™!

First round: September 2016-January 2017;
Second round: February 2017-June 2017

After the closing date, one winner will be chosen at random from the correct entries received for that round.

The prize for each individual round will be an iPod shuffle™ or Oxford University Press books of their choice to the value of £50/US$70.

The winner of Round 2 will also win an additional prize of a twelve month personal subscription to Oxford Dictionaries Premium, to further their study and research within and beyond academia, by exploring our reliable, up-to-date online dictionaries for languages around the world.

The winner of the grand prize, an iPad mini™ or £250/US$350 worth of OUP books of their choice, will be randomly chosen from all the correct entries after the closing date of 30 June 2017. To be in with a chance of winning the grand prize you must answer correctly all questions from both rounds of the quiz.

Terms and Conditions


  • The closing date for entry to the annual prize draw will be 30 June 2017. Entries must be received no later than 11:59pm GMT on the closing date
  • The closing dates for each round of the quiz are as follows: Round 1 31 January 2017 11.59pm GMT; Round 2 30 June 2017 11.59pm GMT
  • This prize draw is open to all students/faculties/researchers/teachers of our customers except employees of Oxford University Press (OUP) and their families
  • Entrants must be aged 18 years or older
  • To enter the prize draw entrants must answer all questions from all 2 rounds of the quiz correctly
  • No purchase is required
  • The Promotion is void where prohibited by law
  • Only one entry per person. Sending an e-mail or completing an online entry is not proof that OUP has received your entry. OUP does not accept any responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, or damaged. Entries which are late, incomplete or illegible or not submitted in accordance with these Terms and Conditions will be disqualified at OUP's sole discretion
  • Only 1 winning entry will receive the prize of an iPad mini™ or £250/$350 worth of OUP books of your choice
  • The prize for each round will be an iPod shuffle™ or Oxford University Press books of your choice to the value of £50/$70
  • The Round 2 winner will also win a 12 month personal subscription to Oxford Dictionaries Premium
  • The winners will be selected at random from all valid entries received on or before the respective dates. OUP's decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into
  • The prize winner will be notified by e-mail within 30 days of the respective closing date of the quiz round and prize draw
  • In the event that a prize winner cannot be contacted within the time specified, OUP reserves the right to withdraw their entitlement to the prize and award the prize to another entrant randomly drawn from the original correct entries received for the prize draw
  • The prize is non-transferable, non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for a cash alternative in whole or in part. OUP reserves the right to provide an alternative prize in the event that the prize is not available on the advertised date or at all due to unforeseen circumstances
  • The entrant warrants that their quiz entry does not violate or infringe the rights of any person whatsoever. OUP reserves the right to use winners' name/likeness for publicity purposes
  • OUP will collect and process any information provided by entrants, including personal data. OUP will use that information for correspondence with quiz entrants, to deal with any queries on the prize draw, and to provide entrants with information about products or services which may interest entrants. OUP will share all information provided by entrants within OUP and with Oxford Publishing Limited, and with the parent institution to which you are affiliated e.g. your library. You can opt out of receiving emails at any time by following the links provided in the email  
  • For names and countries of prize winners send an email to by 1 August 2017
  • If OUP is not able to run the prize draw and/or quiz as planned due to unforeseen circumstances, OUP reserves the right to alter, amend, suspend or cancel the quiz and prize draw without prior notice
  • OUP will not be liable for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any person entering or not being able to enter the prize draw or as a result of accepting any prize. OUP is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers or providers, computer equipment or software, failure of any email or entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet, telephone lines or at any website or any combination thereof. Nothing shall exclude OUP's liability for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence
  • OUP will pay for the postage of the prizes. Entrants will be liable to pay for any local duty or taxes on prizes
  • The prize draw and these Terms and Conditions will be governed by English law and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England
