C. Hurst & Co. Ltd. Joins Forces with Oxford

Released on April 15, 2013

C. Hurst & Co. Ltd., an independently owned non-fiction publisher based in central London, has appointed Oxford University Press as its exclusive agent in North & South America with effect from April 1, 2013. The agreement includes sales, marketing, and distribution of all Hurst’s print and electronic book products, the latter being a global arrangement.

Commenting on the new agreement, Michael Dwyer, Managing Director of Hurst, said “We are delighted and honored by our new arrangement with Oxford University Press, which will help our authors reach the wider readership that their books, in both print and electronic formats, so evidently deserve.  This tie up with Oxford University Press is the most significant development for Hurst since the company was founded in 1969.”
Niko Pfund, President of Oxford University Press, USA commented, “A focus on specific countries and regions of the world used to be known as ‘area studies,’ a term that seems increasingly anachronistic in our era of globalization and interconnectedness.  C. Hurst & Co. has for many years been one of the most imaginative, prescient, and daring independent publishers on the intersection of area studies and current events, whether on the Balkan wars in the 90s, the dynamics of African politics, or the complexities of South Asia.  At a time when the study of politics and history must come from the ‘inside out,’ rather than from a detached distance, Hurst’s catalog goes where knowledge is most needed and explains our world to those who want to go beyond pithy headlines and simple narratives.”
