Released on January 8, 2018

David Bednall and Sarah Quartel We are delighted to announce that David Bednall and Sarah Quartel have signed long-term agreements with Oxford University Press. Both David and Sarah already have a number of pieces published by OUP and we look forward to adding to these in 2018 and beyond.

David Bednall says: 'It is an immense thrill and honour to be signing with OUP. Not only is it one of the most respected and best-established houses in the world, but, on a personal note, it is the home of so many revered past masters, and so many respected colleagues. I'm hugely looking forward to our partnership.'

Sarah Quartel says: 'I am deeply honoured to have signed with OUP. This partnership truly excites me! It is a privilege and a joy to work with a publisher that has such a tremendous history of musical excellence and is well-respected worldwide. I am humbled to join a group of composers that I admire, and thrilled to work alongside publishing professionals I respect.'

Ben Selby, OUP’s Director of Music Publishing, comments: 'We’re thrilled to have signed David, one of today's most innovative choral composers. Sarah brings with her a fresh, exciting style. She is already highly successful in North America, and we are excited to represent her and her works around the globe.'

David Bednall is one of the leading British choral composers of his generation. He has an extensive freelance playing and conducting career, and is Organist of The University of Bristol, Sub-organist at Bristol Cathedral, and conducts The University Singers. He won prizes in Improvisation and Performance at the examination for FRCO, and has improvised on live radio, and performed extensively in the UK and abroad. He is most prominent as a composer, and recordings of his works have received high critical acclaim.

Sarah Quartel has experienced significant success writing for youth and treble choirs in North America.  Her compositions have been featured by Honor Choirs at the last two National conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (in 2015 and 2017). Sarah's choral works are performed by children, youth, and adults throughout the world and her work as an educator connects exciting musical experiences with meaningful classroom learning. She currently lives and writes both in Ontario and Hawaii.
