Oxford Texts in Applied and Engineering Mathematics
Oxford University Press has historically provided intermediate-level textbooks in applied mathematics through the Oxford Applied Mathematics And Computing Science Series, which includes such well-known titles as Jordan and Smith: Nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations, Acheson: Elementary Fluid Dynamics, and Hill:A First Course in Coding Theory. This series has now been relaunched as Oxford Texts In Applied And Engineering Mathematics, and is currently being expanded to include a range of texts from the undergraduate through to the graduate level.
Prospective titles should be based on taught courses which explain the mathematical or computational techniques required for the resolution of fundamental applied problems. The term applied and engineering mathematics is interpreted very broadly, both in terms of the underlying methodology and applications. Texts based on mathematical methods, discrete mathematics, computation and probability and statistics are welcomed, as are applications to both traditional and emerging areas of application in physics, biology, chemistry, engineering, finance and in areas which bridge more than one field. All books must be conceived as teaching texts, complete with examples and exercises.
Oxford University Press welcomes enquiries from prospective authors. We ask authors to send in proposals in detailed form which should include the following: a statement of the objectives and scope of the book; the intended readership; some notes about how the book relates to existing texts; an estimate of the intended length; a list of chapter headings; and, if possible, one or two draft chapters.
