Fiddle Time RSS

Fiddle Time is a great series for all beginner violinists. Packed with lively original tunes, well-known pieces, and easy duets, itâs carefully organized to guarantee success every step of the way.

  • Tunes are easy to play but always musically rewarding for the performer and highly effective for the listener
  • Play-along CDs with lively multi-instrumental backings which are full of character
  • "Kathy and David Blackwell need no introduction to string teachers and students; their Fiddle Time series has gained universal appeal . . . All 48 pieces [in the Solo Time series] are carefully chosen for their educational value as well as musical appeal. Helpful fingering and bowing suggestions together with informative notes, stylish piano accompaniments and a CD with backing tracks as well as full performances provide an admirable follow-up to the Blackwells' considerable achievements." - Mary Nemet, Stringendo (AUSTA), October 15

"With the introduction of this latest addition to the Fiddle Time family of publications [Solo Time], it would now theoretically be possible to go from complete beginner to ABRSM Grade 8 using only one series of books. That this is the case is a testament to the vast accumulated experience of the Blackwells, which they have so generously shared with their violin teaching colleagues." - The Strad, September 2015

"Lively original pieces are mingled with well-known pieces and duets that build confidence every step of the way and are great fun to play." - Stringendo (AUSTA Journal), April 03

"An excellent collection in every way." - Music Teacher May 2002 (on Fiddle Time Christmas)

"Authors Kathy and David Blackwell lay out easy-to-follow and fun exercises. The books are filled with colorful illustrations and most of the musical exercises include whimsical lyrics and fun tips." - Strings (US) Oct 03 (on Fiddle Time Scales)

"Kathy's [Blackwell] approach is full of common sense with well-tried and effective pedagogy that can only come from a teacher with a great deal of practical experience within the world of small and large group string teaching in schools. In her approach it seems to me that Kathy has managed to explore the very best practice that modern string pedagogy has to offer; taking the best elements of each and combining them into a package that would work in the majority of situations that modern teachers find themselves placed in!." - Review of Kathy Blackwell's ESTA Pathways in Teaching event in Arco, Summer 2014
