The ACS Symposium Series provides a format for rapid publication of books that cover topics of current interest, in fields in which information is expanding quickly. Most of these books are developed from symposia. However, they are not simply proceedings, because additional material is often added to the books to enhance the comprehensiveness of the subject coverage. Such additions include review material, tutorial chapters, additional chapters, glossaries, and indices. After the chapters have undergone limited peer review, they are prepared in camera-ready format by the authors.
