DataBank information for music retailers

OUP is one of the best-known university presses in the world and the majority of our product is sold through bookshops. We are also one of the largest and longest-established music publishers. Oxford has developed a new interface to help customers to download product information in a form which is most useful to them. DataBank is just as suitable for use by music retailers as it is for bookshops. The rest of this page explains from a music-specific viewpoint what information is available and how you can access it.

What information is available?

Oxford DataBank supplies data from the OUP and ABRSM complete UK catalogues of 'in print' and forthcoming products available from the UK distribution centre. This catalogue is updated daily and includes printed music and books on music.

You can still download the existing music data report that was available through our retailers’ web-site, by selecting the Music report. Alternatively you can create a custom report tailored to your requirements from over 50 different data elements.

You do not need to have a trade account with OUP to access the information.

How do I select which titles are included in a report?

Quick search by title group or catalogue:

A quick option to receive data on all titles in the OUP Printed Music Stocklist (best-selling titles). In the future, additional catalogues or selections of titles will be loaded.

Search by ISBN:

Data will be supplied for individual ISBN13s entered. DataBank does not recognise short order codes, fragments of ISBNs or ISBN10s.

Flexible search by subject or series:

Printed Music titles in DataBank are classified on two Subject levels, and when searching by Subject you can select to either receive data on all titles we publish or just for specific areas. Holding down the ‘Ctrl’ button allows you to select multiple items.

For example if you are only interested in Sacred Choral and Organ titles you can select these in the second level of the hierarchy:

To set up a report to include all Printed Music and Books about Music, select the following:

To receive data on specific series, for example only the titles in Piano Time or Music Theory in Practice, select Search by series and then click on the required titles:

How can I filter my report?

In DataBank it is possible to filter by format. For reports on printed music titles we recommend that you leave the default setting of All Printed Formats.

Publication Date:

The default setting is not to filter by publication date, however you can report only on titles that are not yet published or that have published within a fixed date range.

Availability Status:

Information on Out of Print titles is kept within the system for 1 month. To keep your systems up to date we recommend that you run an Out of Print titles report at least monthly. For ease this could be a Custom Report with only the ISBN and title.
