Important OUP's Response to COVID-19 Learn more

Online retail, bookstores, and libraries

Online Availability

The majority of our readers are discovering and buying books online and we work with all major online book retailers to ensure the widest possible availability. Customers can also order direct from OUP via our website: We work with retailers such as Amazon to increase discoverability, helping your book stand out from the crowd.

Mainstream bookstores are unlikely to hold stock pre-emptively for scholarly books, but most will order the title on request from a customer. Our highly experienced sales team sells to specialist wholesalers and booksellers around the world. Online discoverability, including availability via online bookstores, continues to be the most important path to ensure that your book reaches its key audiences.

Library Discoverability

Librarians depend on our metadata to find out about new and upcoming books, so a key priority for OUP is ensuring that this data is correct. Metadata includes all of the information about your book including title, author, readership, and pricing, as well as all other relevant publishing information. Our institutional sales and marketing teams also work closely with librarian communities to assist them in finding the content they require.

Sales Catalogues

Our 'New Titles Catalogue' is produced quarterly and is used as a new book subscription tool by sales teams around the world to alert booksellers, libraries, and distributors to forthcoming titles in advance of publication.
