The 2000 term

Although Bush v. Gore (2000) dominated the news and had the biggest impact of any case decided by the Supreme Court in the October 2000 Term, the justices did hand down a number of other important decisions, and continued the trend of the Rehnquist Court toward decentralizing power and reinvigorating the federal system. Then in the following Term, the Court handed down two decisions that for the first time in over a decade put a limit on the death penalty, and also weakened the wall between church and state by approving school vouchers.
