A major new commission for Gabriel Jackson

The hour-long work for soloists, choir, and chamber ensemble will be premiered at Merton College, Oxford and then at Trinity Church, Wall St, New York, a week later.

Merton College, Oxford, as part of its 750th Anniversary celebrations, have commissioned Gabriel Jackson to write a Passion setting. The hour-long work for choir, chamber ensemble, and soloists will be premiered at Merton College on Friday 4th April, with soloists Ben Johnson and Emma Tring, and then at Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York, a week later where the choir of Merton College will be joined by singers from Trinity Church. Both performances will be directed by Benjamin Nicholas.

Jackson’s setting takes material from each four Gospel narratives, interspersed with Latin hymns, and English texts by poets associated with Merton College over the centuries. These texts have been expertly drawn together by the Rev Dr Simon Jones, Chaplain of Merton College.
