Kerry Andrew commissioned to compose piece for ABCD celebrations
The Association of British Choral Directors (abcd) has commissioned Kerry Andrew to compose a new piece for their 25th anniversary celebrations, to be published by Oxford University Press.
To celebrate 25 years of inspirational choral leadership by abcd, Kerry Andrew will be composing a new piece to be premiered by the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, conducted by Mike Brewer.
The new work will be a non-sacred piece for mixed (SATB) choir, with optional unison children's choir, piano accompaniment and optional unpitched percussion. The aim is for the piece to be accessible and exciting, and Andrew, who recently won a British Composer Award, is looking forward to the challenge.
'It's a huge honour to be commissioned by abcd to write for their 25-year anniversary celebrations. I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into creating a joyous, uplifting piece that lots of choirs will want to take home with them and hopefully sing for the next 25 years!' Kerry Andrew
The premiere of the new work will take place during the abcd Convention 2011, on 27 August 2011 in Birmingham Town Hall, and the piece will be published by Oxford University Press to coincide with the event.
Kerry Andrew already has three choral works published by OUP; Hevene Quene, O lux beata Trinitas, and Adam and the Mother, as well as having works included in several OUP choral anthologies.
