Oxford University Press Announces New iBooks Textbooks for English Language Learners
30 October 2012
Oxford University Press today announced the launch of iBooks textbooks for English language learners, available exclusively on the iBookstore in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia. Made with iBooks Author software, these titles harness the interactive capabilities of iPad to enrich the experience for students learning English.
Oxford identified its best-selling series Oxford Read and Discover as ideally suited for iBooks textbooks, and has now released All About Space as an iBooks textbook. Further titles from the Read and Discover series as well as Q: Skills for Success, an English language learning course for teen to adult learners, are currently in development.
Peter Marshall, Managing Director, English Language Teaching Division, Oxford University Press said, "‘iBooks textbooks, created using iBooks Author, transform the way young students explore the content of our books. Our first iBooks textbook, All About Space, features integrated videos, a gallery of stunning colour photographs with the option to zoom in, interactive activities, and audio in American English. Students can discover 3-D models of the planets, and these, together with the other features, make learning about space both inspiring and educational for young students."
Oxford Read and Discover was developed as a non-fiction series for young students from 8 years, to make learning English through other subjects exciting. Transformed into iBooks textbooks, the rich content, carefully graded language and activities develop language and critical thinking skills. As iBooks textbooks, they provide a different learning experience while making students better informed about the world around them, and improving language skills through reading in English.
Oxford University Press' All About Space iBooks textbook is now available on the iBookstore on iPad. Price 8.99 GPD/$14.50 CAD and can be viewed at viewMultiRoom.
