OUP success at Bookseller Industry Awards
15 May 2012
Oxford University Press was named Academic, Educational, and Professional Publisher of the Year at The Bookseller Industry Awards yesterday.
The UK awards, which are judged by a panel of publishing and retail experts, recognize achievements across the book trade.
It is the first year that the Academic, Educational, and Professional prize has been issued, and OUP beat off strong competition to win the award. Other publishers shortlisted included Bloomsbury Academic and Professional, Cengage, Collins, and Pearson.
Judges made their decision based on a range of factors including: high-quality publishing; a creative approach; innovation and digital development; engagement with institutions, teachers, and students; environmental awareness; and the retention and motivation of staff.
The panel particularly praised OUP for its international breadth, highlighting its “unrivalled global reach, with books in 40 languages and operations in more than 50 countries.”
Kate Harris, Managing Director of Oxford Education at OUP collected the award at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London.
Harris said: “To win this award is a tremendous honour. It recognizes that we continue to succeed at providing industry-leading academic and educational solutions for our customers. I'm sure my many colleagues at OUP will be as proud as I am about the award.”
