Law Teacher of the Year 2016 announced at inaugural law teaching conference

28 July 2016

On Friday 1 July, OUP's Higher Education law team hosted the inaugural Celebrating Excellence in Law Teaching Conference.

Bringing together law lecturers at all stages of their careers, as well as current law students, the conference aimed to share best practice, explore innovative teaching methods, and build networks between law schools. It reflects OUP’s aim to find the very best means of teaching and spreading knowledge.

The conference also provided the platform to announce the winner of the 2016 Law Teacher of the Year Award, which was presented to Lisa Webley, Professor of Empirical Legal Studies at the University of Westminster. The announcement came after a rigorous judging process involving detailed written nominations, observed teaching sessions, and interviews with students and colleagues of the candidates.

Accepting the award, Lisa said “this has been a wonderful opportunity to reflect on why we [teachers] do what we do, what we want to achieve, and what we stand for”.

OUP sponsors and administers this UK teaching prize, which aims to highlight inspirational law teachers in further and higher education.
