Gaming collaboration set to bring OUP classics to life

21 June 2012

Some of OUP’s classic literature titles will be transformed into a series of engaging games for children following a collaboration with interactive world creators, SecretBuilders.

Classic texts such as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes Short Stories, and Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will be converted into social games and apps as part of the ‘50 Great Reads Before 15’ project.

The titles will be included in the ‘Bookworms Club’, a virtual land on SecretBuilders’ interactive online platform, which has more than seven million registered users. They will also be made available as games for mobile devices, which will be downloadable as apps.

All of the games are based on OUP’s Bookworms series, a graded readers scheme that provides tailored materials for students learning English.  Bookworms is a key part of OUP’s English language teaching publishing, and the collaboration with Secretbuilders is designed to inspire children to read.

Laura Pearson, General Manager of OUP’s American English Language Teaching Group, said: “Oxford University Press values this opportunity to extend our educational mission through gamifying the learning experience and motivating learners to improve their English reading skills.”
