OUP events to help inspire children to read in Pakistan

04 June 2012

OUP Pakistan today launched a new programme of activities designed to promote reading amongst children in Pakistan.

Dosti Kitabon Sey, or ‘Friendship with Books’ is a series of events designed to highlight the joy of books.

Conducted by the well-known by Pakistani television personality Khaled Anam, the events will run at OUP bookshops in Pakistan throughout June and July.

Anam is a keen supporter of children’s education, and as part of the series he will lead activities including story-telling, book reading, story-building games, puppet shows, and more.

Encouraging children to read forms an important part of OUP Pakistan’s educational publishing programme. The branch produces a wide range of educational resources including storybooks, textbooks, and dictionaries alongside academic and higher education texts.

At the heart of its educational work is a drive to increase literacy in the county, and the Dosti Kitabobn Sey events will play a key role in its efforts in this field.

OUP Pakistan Managing Director Ameena Saiyid, said: “At Oxford University Press we have always been very conscious of the value of reading, especially for children, because the habit of reading can become a lifetime pursuit if it is acquired in childhood. We therefore welcome and endorse Khaled Anam’s playing 'Pied Piper' to entice children into the magical world of books”.
